Our journey to deliver and search for stoves in December
Every stove takes between four hours and four days to renovate and between 2 hours and 16 hours to collect
Each stove also takes an average of half a day to deliver
Stoves are usually totally dismantled. the parts are cleaned, rubbed down and repainted before reassembling and photographing.
We fire up each model to check for leaks and seal the enamel used before putting it onto our website for sale....
Chroming is an expensive process so we usually replace worn chrome with high quality silver stove enamel paint.
We deliver stoves from France to the UK or Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Spain and pick up stoves on the return journey, making loops of journeys to exchange artifacts. These routes cover roads and trade methods than spans Roman times to today.
We have also arranged courier delivery to other countries. Denmark, USA, Russia,

WHY BOTHER WITH OLDER STOVES?
Renovation - a bit of a mission
Our searches for French stoves take us from the heart of the newer, larger, Aquitaine-Limousin-Poitou-Charentes region, where we live, all over this beautiful French land and even as far north as Finistére in Bretagne
We started renovating stoves in 2006, when we first moved here. We'd seen stoves like these 20 years ago, when we came to work the "vindages" before the process was mechanised. We always wanted to move here to do something with them.
The colours, the huge range of designs and the sheer brilliance of these enamel finishes are something to marvel over.
Many FRENCH ANTIQUE stoves end up in the tip or at the scrapyard being melted down. Even good working models. This is because instead of supporting alternative modern technologies such as retrofitted devices to improve emmissions and fuel consumption, or innovative designs such as rocket mass heaters using free, local resources, householders are encouraged to replace their old stove with new models. In France we have tax rebates for fitting new low-energy models, which is great for the environment in the short term but only for people with a large enough buget to spend on the latest technology or with a high enough income to pay tax.
Our aim is to invest in developing retrofitted devices that can provide secondary burn technology to older models.
Every stove we sell allows us to develop contacts, spend time on applying for grants and research new ideas from around the world. Our latest move in this direction is to work with the INTENSIFIRE DEVICE - which we are very excited to be able to sell in Europe for retrofitting to an older stove model.
Our aim to preserve antique stoves for their beauty and their architectural heritage has ensured that hundreds of French models have been saved from the dump. Spreading the beauty and prolonging the life of these classic antiques has been a great pleasure. We recommend that they be used as a secondary heating device or that they be integrated with as much approved technology as possible to allow reduction in fuel consumption.
