VIVID GREEN ENAMEL CAST IRON exterior
CAST IRON & FIREBRICK firebox
*N.B. this is a VERY OLD model and rare
this stove is a rare and older model produced by the ROLLS ROYCE of antique French stove Foundries "Deville & Cie Charleville"
The original ash-pan and hook is still with it and the bricks are also original.
The Deville foundry began in 1846 & is very well known in France for it's inventions, being the first foundry to use enamel on cast iron stoves.Deville has a reputation for originality, style and quality.
It is still producing high-quality stoves today and was the first French manufacturer of high efficiency pellet stoves in 2004
The VIVID DEEP GREEN colour is quite uncommon for antique stoves, more expensive to produce but very sought after, most models being ranges of LIGHT blues, greys, black or browns.
Dark Blues, Pinks, Purples and Greens were rarer. They still are very popular.
This gorgeous piece of French art NOUVEAU & industrial history has cast iron body with internal cast iron box lined all the way round with firebrick like the classic tall GODIN, (rival foundry)
there was one repair already made when we found this, it had been spot welded where the second lid had cracked. we reinforced this by adding four stainless steel bolts. This repair will not affect safety nor efficiency of this beautiful old stove. There is also one patch of red staining to the lid, which may be lessened - see photo updates
THE ENAMEL HAS NOW BEEN CLEANED MORE PHOTOS ON THE WAY
The motifs stand out beautifully: delicate floral flowing patterns bordered with organic shapes dates this to be absolutely ART NOUVEAU. Deville & Cie stoves were very well designed and cherished.
This is a well constructed and fully functional decorative antique stove.
The pictures here show the stove in it's finished state
